To make this process easier, I suggest doing one of two things -- buy a guide or use the quest helper addon. If you're questing, you really need to have a power leveling pattern down. If you are new to the game then you will most likely not be efficient with your questing. I honestly recommend buying a guide, however the quest helper addon is great if you want a quick and free way of power leveling. If you plan on using a guide, that brings us to the last tip.

 

A lot of kills won't get you near as much xp as finishing a quest. Check your supplies before you set out so you don't have to stop and restock.Getting xp, or experience points is what will move you up a level and questing has a much higher return than grinding. Keep your toon free to do the power leveling by using a second character in the Auction House. The Auction House can waste valuable time that should be spent power leveling.

 

Go ahead and have a little fun grinding, but it gets boring and it will slow you down. Don't get caught without enough food and water on your power leveling quests. This can really be a problem if you're trying to quickly move through a level and come up short. Before you go on a quest be sure to check and see what you are going to need. Also make sure you are well stocked with everything else you might need. Have your secondary character buy and sell items for your main character, then transfer those items to you main character. Make sure the secondary toon has access to a mailbox to do this.
